Privacy at CapRocket

Last updated: October 20, 2026

CapRocket is a desktop editor: your videos, photos, audio and projects stay on your computer. This page explains the little information that the app and this website handle, and how to turn it off.

1. Anonymous statistics in the CapRocket app

To know how many people install and use CapRocket, the app can send anonymous usage statistics. It is off until you agree. The first time you open a version that includes this feature, CapRocket asks you once. If you choose “No thanks” or close the question, nothing is sent.

What is sent, and when

When statistics are on, the app sends a small message to caprocket.site:

  • once, the first time after you agree: an install event;
  • at most once per day while you use the app: a heartbeat event, which lets us count daily and monthly active users;
  • when you uninstall CapRocket (best effort, and only if statistics are on): an uninstall event.

Each message contains exactly three things:

  • A random installation ID: a random number (UUID) created on your PC when you agree. It is not derived from your hardware, your Windows account or anything about you. It is stored in %APPDATA%\CapRocket\telemetry.json.
  • The event type: install, heartbeat or uninstall.
  • The CapRocket version, for example 0.1.0.

The time of an event is the time our server receives it; the app sends no time, location or device information.

What is never collected

  • Your name, email address, phone number or any account (there is no account);
  • your files, media, file names or paths, project contents or editing history;
  • what you do in the app, how long you use it, or what is on your screen;
  • hardware identifiers, device fingerprints or your precise location;
  • your API keys (they are encrypted on your PC and only sent to the service they belong to, when you use it).

How it is stored

Our server does not store the installation ID as it was sent: it stores a keyed hash of it (HMAC-SHA256). For each installation it keeps the first and last day it was seen, the last version, whether an uninstall was reported, and one entry per day on which it was active. Daily activity entries are deleted after 400 days. The dashboard only shows totals and charts (installations, daily and monthly active users, versions); nobody can browse individual installations.

Your IP address necessarily reaches the server with each request. Our application does not store it. To limit abuse, it keeps a short-lived counter keyed by a hash of the address with a key that changes every day; these counters are deleted after two days.

How to turn statistics off

Open Settings (the gear icon at the top right of CapRocket) and switch off Anonymous usage statistics. From then on the app sends nothing, and updates never turn it back on. To also remove the installation ID from your PC, delete %APPDATA%\CapRocket\telemetry.json.

If you don’t agree, you are simply not counted in the installation and active-user numbers. Every feature works the same.

2. Online services you choose to use in the app

Some optional features contact other services, only when you use them: searching the music, sound effect and stock libraries (Openverse/Jamendo, SFXMint, Freesound, Pixabay), ElevenLabs voices, and AI providers for RocketPilot. They receive only what that feature needs (a search, the text to speak, your request), under their own privacy policies. Auto captions and the free Piper voices run on your PC.

3. This website

  • No cookies for visitors, no trackers, no advertising. The site uses no analytics scripts and loads no third-party resources.
  • Download counter. When you click the download button, the site adds one to a counter for that day and sends you to the file. It records no IP address, browser or other detail; so that reloading does not count twice, it uses the same short-lived, daily-rotating hashed counter described above. This counts download requests, not completed downloads.
  • Download hosting. The installer file is served by Google Drive, which applies its own privacy policy when you download it. Links to GitHub and other sites are governed by their policies.
  • Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard access logs (which include IP addresses) for security and operations, under its own retention rules. We do not use them for statistics.
  • Administrator area. The /admin area sets a session cookie only for the site maintainer who signs in.

4. Why we measure, and legal basis

The numbers help the maintainer understand whether CapRocket is used, which versions are still running, and where to spend development time. Statistics are only sent with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings. We do not sell or share this data, and we do not combine it with other data.

5. Contact

Questions or requests about privacy: contact the maintainer. Because the data is anonymous, we cannot find “your” installation from your name or email; deleting telemetry.json and turning statistics off ends any link.

6. Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. A change that sends more information will never be turned on without asking you again.
